Transition Year has been run successfully in Glenart College since 2018, it is a year that really focuses on the development of the student at a more personal level. By participating in TY students will develop skills that will help with a smooth transition to self-directed learning that is required at Senior Cycle.
Students will gain an extra years maturity which will help them cope with the increased level of learning that is necessary for Senior Cycle. They will learn transferable skills that will be of huge benefit to them at third level and in working life such as analytical skills, problem solving skills and teamwork skills. They will also benefit from learning about adult working life. This will be achieved through participation in a preparation for work module that will include work experience and job seeking skills. They will also have the chance to investigate the options that will be available to them when they leave school.
There are 4 layers to TY:
Layer one consists of core subjects such as English, Irish and Maths RSE and PE.
Layer two will allow students sample leaving certificate subjects so they can make a clearer decision when they choose their subjects for fifth year.
Layer three will be TY modules such as First Aid and Mini Company.
Layer four will be one off events and activities that occur during the year such as work experience.
As our planning for this year progresses we will update the information herein.
