Environmental Debates
On Thursday 24th November last our debating team took part in this year’s Wicklow County Council Environmental Debating Competition.
Glenart College was represented by Ethan Kelly, Jamie Byrne and Ben Usher as they took on Blessington Community College. Our team proposed the motion “We need to make our town’s car unfriendly to encourage a shift to car- free travel”. The students explored issues such as carbon emissions and the health implications of air pollution in addition to Ireland’s environmental obligations on an EU level.
All participants spoke articulately and passionately on the topic and look forward to participating in the next round of the competition.
Table tennis
Well done to the senior table tennis team who have won all their matches so far this year and sit at the top of the table in their group. They had an intense week of competitions playing Del La Salle Churchtown on Monday, CBC Monkstown on Tuesday and St Patrick’s grammar school on Thursday. Well done lads.
Well done also to the under 13 and under 15 teams also competing during the week especially the under 13’s who also have won all their games so far in the league. Well done lads, a fantastic achievement.
NSPCA
As part of their action project students from class 2Oak organised a collection of supplies for NWSPCA. The project is to highlight the tireless efforts of the volunteers who support animals in need. The NWSPCA were very grateful for all donations.
LCVP Work Experience
As part of the LCVP all 5th year students had a week’s work experience last week. The students worked in a variety of different areas and we would to extend our thanks to all local businesses who extended a warm welcome to our students and allowed them the opportunity to work and gain valuable experience and insight into working life.
