First Year Day Out!
First year students accompanied by their year head and class teacher had a wonderful day out last Friday as a reward and recognition of their hard work and enthusiasm this term. They travelled to Courtown for bowling and crazy golf. It was a great opportunity for them to celebrate as a year group and they thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Trip to the Cinema!
Second and third year students enjoyed a morning out last Friday to Arklow cinema. They went to see ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’. The trip was organised for the students by their year heads to reward students’ excellent work and behaviour this term. These trips are held twice yearly and students are always very keen to be included.
Meeting an Irish Sports Star.
On Wednesday the 14th of December our principal Ms Kearns accompanied by two second year students Michelle Bertsch and Aida Urbanavicuite and to meet Ronnie Delany at the Arklow Municipal Centre. He spoke about his 1500m Olympic win in 1956. The students said that Mr. Delany was a very funny and engaging man and “we took pictures and shook hands with him”. “We also got to watch his race from an old recording”. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of meeting a wonderful Irish sports star. In fact one of our 6th year classes are named after him!
Courses for Parents
Our Computers for Parents course and Project Maths for Parents are just finished for Christmas and will resume in the New Year.Parents Plus continues to Tuesday 20th December.In the New Year we shall be running a new course for Parents entitled Parenting when Separated. More details to follow. Also a Health, Fitness and Wellbeing course is earmarked to start in the Spring. Elavon Supporting Students
Many thanks to Elavon for supporting us in our skills at Work Programme in conjunction with business in the community.Our 5th year business class were welcomed to Elavon last week where they learned more about the company and the work they do.
On Wednesday the 7th of December we welcomed Adele Thim to the college and she facilitated a marvellous team work workshop culminating in building the tallest Rudolphs! Our students really benefitted from this.
First Year JCSP Celebration
Our first years had their annual Christmas celebration of Learning and all parents were invited to attend. The event was held on 15th December and there was a great turnout of parents and family enthusiastic to see their students work and a showcase of their talent. Some favourite Christmas carols were sung he choir accompanied by Naoimh Penston. Music was also provided by Jessica Usher on her tin whistle.
As part of the JCSP Christmas Celebration of Learning there were also Christmas reflections, readings from Luke’s Gospel and gifts to represent our multidenominational school.
Each student and their family were given a Christmas decoration for their tree which read the following” May the Star of Bethlehem which “shone brightly over the first crib stand guard over our home, filling it and all the earth with light and peace”.
Every student in first year was presented with a certificate outlining a summary of their achievements so far. There was a nativity presentation which included music and poetry and the afternoon was finished off with mince pies. Feedback from parents indicated that the celebration was a great success.
Christmas Wishes!
The management and staff at Glenart College would like to take this opportunity to send our best wishes to all our students and families for a peaceful Christmas and we look forward to working together in 2017. School reopens on Monday the 9th of January.
