We’re so delighted for him.   Poetry in the classroom Glenart College is delighted to have Colm Keegan as their ‘Author in Residence’ for the next 5 weeks. Films he has co-written and produced with young people have been shown in the Lighthouse Cinema and have won awards at CAST national Film Festival two years running. He is also one of the leading poets involved in WraPParound, a Writing Rap and Performance Poetry programme run by the JCSP and Poetry Ireland. He is a qualified youth leader. He received The Gold Gaisce award from President Mary McAlese and was presented with the Gulbenkian Award for community involvement. Environmental Debates On Thursday 24th November last our debating team took part in this year’s Wicklow County Council Environmental Debating Competition. Glenart College was represented by Ethan Kelly, Jamie Byrne and Ben Usher as they took on Blessington Community College. Our team proposed the motion “We need to make our town’s car unfriendly to encourage a shift to car- free travel”. The students explored issues such as carbon emissions and the health implications of air pollution in addition to Ireland’s environmental obligations on an EU level. All participants spoke articulately and passionately on the topic and look forward to participating in the next round of the competition.   Table tennis Well done to the senior table tennis team who have won all their matches so far this year and sit at the top of the table in their group. They had an intense week of competitions playing Del La Salle Churchtown on Monday, CBC Monkstown on Tuesday and St Patrick’s grammar school on Thursday. Well done lads.   Well done also to the under 13 and under 15 teams also competing during the week especially the under 13’s who also have won all their games so far in the league.
