Environmental Debates On Thursday 24th November last our debating team took part in this year’s Wicklow County Council Environmental Debating Competition. Glenart College was represented by Ethan Kelly, Jamie Byrne and Ben Usher as they took on Blessington Community College. Our team proposed the motion “We need to make our town’s car unfriendly to encourage a shift to car- free travel”. The students explored issues such as carbon emissions and the health implications of air pollution in addition to Ireland’s environmental obligations on an EU level. All participants spoke articulately and passionately on the topic and look forward to participating in the next round of the competition.   Table tennis Well done to the senior table tennis team who have won all their matches so far this year and sit at the top of the table in their group. They had an intense week of competitions playing Del La Salle Churchtown on Monday, CBC Monkstown on Tuesday and St Patrick’s grammar school on Thursday. A trip to Leinster House First year students had a wonderful experience as they travelled to Leinster House on Tuesday the 15th of November. They were greeted by their host Minister for Health Simon Harris who gave them lots of information about the building itself and the whole voting system. It was a very educational and most enjoyable trip. A special word of thanks to the minister for his time. First Responders A number of senior students participated in in a training session with Arklow First Responders on Friday the 11th of November. The students learned and later demonstrated life-saving skills in CPR, assisting a choking person adult, child or infant along with recognising signs of stoke in a person and how acting F.A.S.T. saves lives. The students are now confident in life-saving skills and how to assist a person in need using an AED – Automated External Defibrillator. Well done to all involved.
