Bringing with her 20 years of experience in the sector into the class room helps learners to link theory to practice. Fiona has been on our teaching team here since 2002 and has helped build the standard of the course to national standard of excellence. Going back to education herself Fiona graduated with her BA Hons Degree in Early Education and Care in 2011 ensuring that she is very current on all aspects of the sector. In recognition of her experience Fiona was invited to become an External Authenticator of Quality Qualifications Ireland in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Who is 5M2009 for?
Applicantions are welcome from all those interested in working with young children including special needs assisting . This course will suit Post leaving Certificate students, mature students and those looking to retrain. Learners undertake this course to work in the Early Childhood Education and Care Sector, to broaden their knowledge and / or as a step on their lifelong learning journey.
Various teaching methods are used during the year to facilitate different learning styles these include, group work, field trips, practical demonstrations, peer learning and tutor presentations.
What are the benefits?
The course is at level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications.. This qualification is recognised both nationally and internationally. Employment opportunities within the sector e.g. Creche worker, Preschool assistant, Special Needs Assistant, Nanny/ Au Pair etc.
Progression in Education Opportunities
5M2009 is an entry requirement for the Level 6 award in Supervision, it can lead into other humanities studies or it can be a stepping stone onto the Level 8 Honors Degree through the Central Applications Office (CAO).
Entry Requirement
Leaving Certificate with a least 5 passes or LCA at Merit level or Mature student status is required. An interview process will analyse the interest in the course the education standard and experience of each candidate.

• Complete an application form and return it with €50 deposit to Glenart College
• Complete a Garda Vetting form
• Provide 2 references
• Attend Interview
• Once place has been offered the remainder fees are paid. (€385 in total, including books & tunic)
